A major advantage of our online classes: You can start learning German right away, even if you’re not yet able to travel to Germany. This is especially helpful if you’re waiting for your visa or have to postpone your stay for other reasons. This way, you won’t waste any valuable time, and you can easily transition to our in-person classes later when you arrive in Heidelberg.
Online German Course: Modern Technology for Effective Learning
We use a modern virtual classroom that offers all the essential features for teaching—including a whiteboard, file uploads, and screen sharing. Your instructor teaches you live, so you can ask questions at any time and actively participate in group work.
We use the Zoom platform for our online classes. All you need to participate is a laptop, computer, tablet, or smartphone. A headset isn’t required, but it can improve sound quality. Our experienced subject-matter experts guide you using structured learning methods and prepare you optimally for college-level studies.
Here's what you'll learn in the online German course:
In our online German course, you’ll learn all the key language skills just as you would in a face-to-face class: You’ll practice listening and comprehension in authentic situations and develop your speaking skills through active communication. Reading and text comprehension are fostered through a variety of materials, while your writing skills are continuously improved through direct feedback. At the same time, you’ll gain a solid understanding of grammar and systematically expand your vocabulary.
Course Duration: Online Intensive Course
To successfully complete a course level, you’ll need different amounts of time depending on your language proficiency. For the beginner levels A1 and A2, as well as for level B1, each course is scheduled to last 8 weeks. The advanced levels B2 and C1 each require nine weeks—slightly more time—due to the increasing complexity of the course material. Our experience has shown that you’ll improve your German skills just as quickly and intensively with online classes as you would with in-person classes.
Online Course Schedule
Our online beginner courses always start on the first Monday of the month, which gives you a reliable basis for planning. Classes are held regularly Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. German time. For the start dates of all higher levels, please feel free to contact us directly so we can provide you with the relevant dates. We’ll advise you individually and work with you to find the best course start date for your desired language level.
