We'll help you with the necessary documents

We at the Alpha Aktiv Heidelberg Language Institute are happy to assist you with the necessary steps to obtain your visa.

If, for example, you need an official enrollment confirmation to apply for a visa to enter Germany, we will of course be happy to assist you by issuing the appropriate invitation and, if necessary, additional documents.

To issue a visa, the German embassy or consulate generally requires, in addition to confirmation of your language course, proof of health insurance and housing. This depends on the respective national visa regulations. We therefore ask that you contact the German embassy in your home country well in advance to find out about the visa requirements. The processing time for a visa is usually between 6 and 12 weeks.

In general, there are two different types of visas that are applicable to the majority of our students:

Tourist Visa

If you’re planning a study program lasting 12 weeks or less, you’ll most likely be granted a tourist visa. You cannot extend this visa in Germany after the 12-week period has ended. To extend it, you must first return to your home country and start the visa application process again at the German embassy or consulate there.

Language Study Visa / Student Visa

If you decide to take a course lasting more than 13 weeks, you will likely be issued a language study visa (language course visa) or student visa. This type of visa can be converted into a residence permit in Germany. This allows you to extend your stay in Germany multiple times without having to return to your home country.

Required Documents

If you wish to apply for a language course visa or a student visa, you must meet certain requirements. These may vary depending on your country of origin. Therefore, before registering with Alpha Aktiv, please check with your local German embassy or the Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany to find out what requirements apply to you.

Based on our experience, the following are typically required:

  • Confirmation from a language school showing that you have enrolled in a language course with at least 20 class units per week (= invitation letter from Alpha Aktiv)
  • Proof of housing. You’re welcome to book accommodations directly with us here!
  • A passport
  • A blocked account showing that you can finance your stay in Germany. Typically, €992 per month is required for this. Alternative: A letter of financial commitment
  • Proof of health insurance
  • Two passport photos + two correctly completed application forms
  • Possibly a university entrance qualification that authorizes you to pursue a degree in Germany. You can check this here

Letter of Invitation

To issue your letter of invitation, the following steps are required:

  • You register for a language course with us using our registration form
  • Transfer the fees listed on our invoice to our bank account
  • Send us a copy of your passport and a copy of the payment receipt via email, and let us know at which German embassy you will be applying for your visa

We will then be happy to issue your invitation letter, usually within one business day. It will be in color and sent to you via email with an official stamp.

Your Questions, Our Answers

Everything You Need to Know About Visas

You should apply for your visa at the German Embassy or Consulate General in your home country. Since appointments are often in short supply, you should take care of this as early as possible. We’d be happy to help you prepare.

Generally, you'll need a valid passport, our enrollment confirmation, proof of financial support (e.g., a blocked account), and health insurance. You can find out exactly which documents are required by contacting the relevant embassy.
