For international nursing professionals, there are two main paths to certification in Germany: the adaptation training program and the knowledge exam. In the adaptation training program, you work under supervision at a nursing facility for a specific period (usually 6–12 months) while bringing your knowledge up to German standards. The knowledge exam is a theoretical and practical test that assesses your nursing competencies according to German standards. Which path is right for you depends on your educational background, professional experience, and personal preferences. Our Pathway Nursing program optimally prepares you for both paths and helps you decide which recognition pathway is best for your situation.
The nursing sector in Germany offers excellent career prospects. Due to the acute shortage of skilled workers, international nursing professionals are in high demand and highly valued. Once your credentials have been successfully recognized, you can work in a variety of settings: hospitals, nursing homes, outpatient care services, or rehabilitation facilities. The starting salary for recognized nursing professionals ranges from 2,800 to 3,400 euros gross per month, depending on the region, with good opportunities for advancement.
