To study in Germany, you need a recognized high school diploma that is comparable to the German Abitur. Depending on your country of origin, your high school diploma may be recognized directly, or you may first need to attend a Studienkolleg and take the Feststellungsprüfung. You’ll also need German language proficiency at least at the B2 level—and for most degree programs, even at the C1 level—as demonstrated by the TestDaF, DSH, or telc C1 Hochschule. For some English-language degree programs, proof of English proficiency is required instead. Our university preparation program specifically prepares you for all these requirements and, through individual educational counseling, helps you determine which path is right for you.
Choosing the right degree program and the right university is crucial to your academic success. With over 20,000 degree programs at more than 400 universities and colleges, Germany offers an enormous variety of options. Our university program supports you in making this important decision by providing comprehensive guidance. We take your interests, strengths, educational background, and career goals into account. Together, we analyze the admission requirements, course content, and career prospects of various options and help you make an informed decision. We also advise you on location-specific factors such as the cost of living, housing situation, and cultural environment of the various university towns.
A major advantage of studying in Germany is the relatively low cost. At public universities in most federal states, there are no tuition fees; instead, students pay only a semester fee of about 100–350 euros per semester, which often includes a semester pass for public transportation. Depending on the city, monthly living expenses range from 800 to 1,200 euros for rent, food, health insurance, and other expenses. To obtain a student visa, you must provide proof of financial support (a blocked account). As part of our university program, we offer comprehensive advice on financing options such as scholarships, part-time jobs, and student loans.
